📍 Central Grandstand (Main Straight)
The Temple of Speed lives up to its name. Sitting on the main straight grandstand, the cars hit over 340 km/h right in front of you and the noise is extraordinary, even in the hybrid era. The old banking is visible through the trees and adds a layer of history that most modern circuits completely lack. And the podium ceremony – the tifosi flooding the track and thousands of fans packed beneath the podium – is genuinely one of the great spectacles in sport, regardless of who wins. The Parco di Monza itself is beautiful. Worth arriving early and walking through the park before the gates open.
Infraestructura y servicios
This is where Monza falls short. The infrastructure is old and it feels it. Queues for toilets are long, food options are limited and expensive, and the grandstand seating is narrow and uncomfortable. Getting into the circuit is straightforward via the Monza train station – about a 25-minute walk through the park – but leaving after the race is a slow crush of humanity funneling back through the same paths. Mobile coverage collapses entirely during the race. The big screens are hard to read from some grandstand angles due to sun glare in September.
Alojamiento y viaje
Milan is the obvious base – 20 minutes by train from Milano Centrale to Monza station. Hotels in Milan are plentiful and you get the bonus of a great city to explore on Thursday and Friday. We paid about €180/night for a decent hotel near Porta Garibaldi. There are a few B&Bs in Monza itself but they triple their prices for race weekend. My advice: stay in Milan, take the early train on Sunday, and plan a proper Italian dinner to celebrate afterwards regardless of the result.
